Ice-Fishing Golf   “Golfpilkki”

Description:
Ice-fishing golf combines two of the most popular recreational activities in the world: golf and fishing. Just like normal golf, ice-fishing golf is an extremely competitive sport that also offers refreshing outdoor exercise and friendly socialising.

In ice-fishing golf there are no favourites and no handicap system. Even a good golfer can come away empty handed and lose if the fish don’t bite. Similarly, a lucky or skilful angler can lose his or her catch if a fellow competitor can “steal” his fish through lucky or skilful golf shots. Ice-fishing golf tournaments are thus ideal also for beginners.

Rounds of ice-fishing golf are played in Arctic winter conditions as either an individual or team tournament. There are no age or gender restrictions. Ice-fishing golf is an ideal corporate event, group activity or family competition.

The intention is to hold annual Finnish and world championships in ice-fishing golf.

The first ice-fishing golf competition was held at Kerimaa Holiday Village on the ice of the Kannantakainen salmon pond. Ice golf and ice fishing have taken place here since the early 1990s. Since Kannantakainen is now an official breeding pond for salmon, ice fishing here is restricted to official ice-fishing golf competitions, of which only a few are held each winter. In summertime only catch & release fly fishing is permitted on the lake. Kannantakainen has a large natural fish population alongside cultivated species that include trout, char, rainbow trout, whitefish and grayling.
